G. P. Telemann - Trumpet Sonata D major (Finale)

Maurice André

A list of trumpet players can't be complete without one of the most important trumpet players of the century. When I was younger I was fascinated by the beautiful, light and virtuosic playing. The bright sound of Maurice André was never to my taste, to be honest (I hope you will continue to read after my saying that) and I always had arguments with friends about it BUT I have always enjoyed and still love listening to him. In the last few years I discovered so many recordings that I was not aware existed. The variety of styles and music he recorded and performed is outstanding. I think that many will agree with me that although Maurice André is a legend, and always will be, his style is considered a little bit "old school" today. I can't say that this is the sound I am looking for while practicing but I can truly say that his musicality and approach are really something to aim for. Very difficult to choose a CD from the really unbelievably huge ocean of music recorded. I could just say - listen to everything! On Spotify there is an amazing collection of 3 CDs that includes hours of music, all very versatile and interesting. I attach here Vol. 2 of the set which includes most of the classics like Haydn, Hummel, Brandenburg, Telemann and much more. I also attach Vol. 3 which I found extremely interesting, with more focus on 20th century music like Jolivet, Tomasi, Chaynes, Hindemith and so much more. I remember the first time I saw and heard this CD, I was shocked, and excited like a kid. I had to listen to it in one sitting and I really recommend it - amazing historical documentation!
